Onions are the company's third largest exportable item after citrus and potatoes.

Even though onions are not grown directly by the company, we are contracting different growers in order to have control over the quality.

At The beginning of the season the onions are grown in Upper Egypt as this area has the best weather conditions for the early plantations. They are then planted in many other areas which come later in the season. The company is exporting from 7000 - 10000 tons of onions per season. The onions are either contracted via big supplies as already mentioned or bought on spot from farms in Upper Egypt and other areas.

They are then either transported to the company's packing house in Menoufeya to be selected and packed, or they are hand selected , graded and packed in the fields directly.

Onions are packed in 25 kg P.P bags or in one-ton jumbo bags. The company exports both Red and Golden onions. The season starts in April and ends in June.

In 2008- 2009 several onion experiments will be made in the company's own pivots in “Wadi El Natroun" . Red , golden and white varieties will be planted in order to evaluate the varieties and start increasing production yearly.
